Who knew that Downtown LA was home to one of the largest libraries in the United States, spanning over 536,000 square feet across eight academic floors.

Non-cardholders can either sign up online or apply in person (branch near you) — and books & material can be searched for via their web portal, Library App, or branch computer.

As for the Central Library itself, top sights to see are the 2nd floor Rotunda, massive Atrium wing, Taper Auditorium, Maguire Gardens, and Library Store. To take a free guided tour, inquire ahead of time with a docent.

Fun fact – did you know your library card gets you access to thousands of free movies on Kanopy – a streaming platform with one of the largest collections in the world. Sign up by entering your library card number and PIN (the last four digits of the phone number associated with your library card).

Fun fact #2 – did you know you can access the incredible Tessa digital collection and photo archives? Give it a shot, it’s mind-blowing.
