Every year, November through February, Hermosa Beach builds a far-stretching, sizable sand barrier to protect onshore infrastructure from potential storm surges. While the sea remains subdued – fitness fanatics, families, kids, and other seekers of fun benefit from this cautionary construction. Boogie boards and snow saucers slide down the slope, while athletes & exercisers opt for bare feet and shorts; an idyllic, SoCal winter wonderland.

While visiting, check out the adjacent pier, promenade, and many beach-side businesses. The compact, walk-ability of the area allows you to thoroughly explore and enjoy much of the downtown district in one little loop.
